According to Sirhindi, sometime in 1191, Prithviraj marched against the Ghurid army with infantry, cavalry, and an elephant force because mu'izz ad-army Din's captured the Tabarhindah fort (At present Bathinda) probably before 1191.
The Ghouri raids into India did not end there, as Muhammad Ghori would returns later, have learned that his enemies' strengths and weaknesses.
Battles of Taraori often referred to as Tarain, took place in year 1191AD and resulted in Islamic rule in North India. Chauhan was accompanied by a number of feudatory rulers, whom Minhaj describes as "All of the Ranas of Hind". These rulers included Govind Rai, (Ruler of Delhi). Sirhindi states that Govind Rai Tomar, seated on an elephant, was at the frontliner, suggesting as he was the commander-chief of Prithviraj's army. Sirhindi and later chroniclers, such as Nizam-al-Din and Bada'uni, describe Govind Rai as a brother of Prithviraj. Firishta also describes Prithviraj and Govind Rai as brothers, stating that the two men marched against the Ghouri in alliance with other Indian rulers. Firishta portrays Govind Rai as someone who was almost equally as powerful as Prithviraj, presumably because Govind Rai was the ruler of Delhi, which had become politically important by Firishta's time.

Mu'izz ad-Din was about to leave Tabarhindah fort, when he received the news about Prithviraj approaching there; then he marched against samrath Prithviraj, and the two armies who met at Tarain.
PrithviRaj Chauhan immediately countered with an all out assault that caught the Ghouri off guard. Ghauri's armies were unfamiliar with the Rajput style of combat, which favoured close combat. the Ghouri army held firm against waves of soldiers, but the Rajput cavalry began to overpower the Ghurid flank. Then ghori realised that closed quarter fighting benefited the Rajputs greatly because they fight like a game, Muhammad's forces broke ranks and unable to withstand the pressure on their flank
